Self-portrait

drawing, painting

This is a self-portrait I did today using pencil and watercolor. I’ve drawn self-portraits before, but never done it with watercolor. It’s really small, the paper is just slightly bigger than a postcard, so it was pretty easy, but  I like how it turned out.

drawing

This week’s topic on Illustration Friday is Dragon, so I just couldn’t resist and made this illustration:

My latest paintings

drawing, painting, sketchbook

Haven’t posted anything here in a while, so here’s what I’ve been up to lately.

  1. Made a Millennium Falcon painting for a friend:

I drew it in pencil on a black canvas first and then painted it whith white oil paint. It took quite a long time because of all the details, but it was lots of fun. Here are some in-progress photos:

  1. Also I’ve been painting some watercolor sketches:

  1. And apart from that I also joined an illustration marathon by Ellina Ellis (it’s on Instagram #денькрокодила). So far I’ve done two of the topics, the first one was kings and queens and the second was little bird.

pumpkin sketch

drawing, sketchbook

I got a beautiful pumpkin for my birthday a couple days ago, so today I made a sketch of it, and I like how it turned out.
I might try a watercolor later to capture the color too.

Don’t know what to draw, draw a dragon

drawing

I haven’t drawn anything for a few weeks now because I injured my right hand while lifting some heavy boxes, but now it’s finally  better enough to draw with a pencil (it turns out drawing with pens requires a lot more physical effort).

Anyway, I wanted to draw something and just chose the first thing that popped into my head, which happened to be a dragon. Being a big nerd when it comes to dragons, I wanted to draw one that’s anatomically convincing, so I started with a skeleton sketch, then printed it out and traced it for the final drawing.

a sketch of my parents’ cottage kitchen

digital art

I spent the weekend with my family at my parents’ cottage debating about future wall color in the kitchen/living room which is in the middle of the renovation process. I made this digital sketch to illustrate my version.

More dragon-related sketches

drawing, sketchbook

My obsession with dragons is still as strong as ever. I have a special sketchbook dedicated to dragons (not to say that I can actually keep from drawing them everywhere else as well). Here are two of the latest sketches, made with a Micron pen and white ink:

The second one is a dragon city. For some reason I can’t stop drawing (and painting) these cities with tall bridges and arches, and I keep thinking of them as cities dragons could live in. I know they probably don’t even look like cities that much, but that’s what they are in my head.

I’m actually working on another oil painting of one of these dragon cities right now – I guess it’s already turning into a series, as I don’t think this will be the last one.
